How to Set Up Location Tracking

Dispatch jobs efficiently, verify team presence in the field, and maintain an automated audit log.

About Location Tracking

PageSmack's location tracking and logging capabilities help you dispatch jobs with precision, eliminate manual check-ins, and confirm on-site arrival times for seamless customer verification.

Setup Instructions

Step 1 Enable tracking on the employee profile

Log into your PageSmack dashboard and navigate to Employees → Create Employee (or edit an existing profile). Ensure the "Location Tracking" toggle is enabled during configuration.

Step 2 Employee receives account invite

The employee will automatically receive an invitation email containing a secure link to set up their password if you've just set them up in the platform.

Step 3 Install the mobile app & grant permissions

Have the employee install the PageSmack mobile application. Direct them to the installation guide, and remind them to select "Allow Location Tracking" when prompted on initial launch.

Step 4 Automated location logging triggers

Once configured, staff locations are automatically captured and made visible across three platform areas:

App Activity: Whenever an employee accesses the app, their latest coordinates update in the Scheduler and Calendar under the "Location" button beside their name.
Job Events: When staff check into or complete a job, their location is recorded. View this on any Invoice or Work Order under "Logs" by clicking the map marker icon.
Checklist Items: Marking task checklist items captures GPS coordinates instantly. Open the Work Order or Invoice, click "Tasks", and select the map marker.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are the location timestamps?

Timestamps displayed across the platform are accurate to within 60 seconds of the actual reported event.

Can I disable tracking for specific team members?

Yes. You can disable location tracking at any time on an individual employee basis by editing their profile settings. This immediately stops telemetry data transmission.

Can employees see each other's location data?

No. Location telemetry and audit logs are strictly restricted to account administrators.

What should I do if tracking isn't appearing?

If tracking is enabled on the employee profile but no location coordinates appear, check the following:

Verify the employee installed and is using the native app rather than browsing via mobile web.
If tracking was just enabled, have the employee sign out and sign back in on their mobile device using the mobile app.
Ensure they aren't actively signed in to the web browser portal on the same handheld device.
Confirm OS permissions allow location access. If denied originally, follow the app setup guide to grant location permissions in phone settings.
